The Essential Guide to Blouses

Let's talk blouses! I'll completely admit, I am winging the difference between a 'blouse' and a 'button-up', but in my head, the difference is all in the fabric and I'm sticking with that. So here are my current essential picks for the best blouses - all made of amazingly luxe silk, all completely versatile in terms of wearing them to work, business casual functions, and going out at night, and all super flattering because let's face it, silk is generally very kind.

Topping out the list is one of my favorite blouses of all time - the Theory Sunaya blouse. Now, Theory is the essential of all essential brands when it comes to elevated minimalist contemporary workwear, and I have been a huge fan since they first came out. While I have invested in many of their blouses over the years, the Sunaya is one of my favorites because of the fit - it isn't super slim, but the perfect amount of drape and the fabric is a tad bit heavier than your average silk shirt, which I love.

Vince is another powerhouse in the elevated minimal contemporary workwear (and beyond) category, and I have been a huge fan for as long as they've been around. Don't let the name fool you on this one, the fit on this one is definitely more on the straight side than slim. It comes out in different colors every season, and there are always black, white and navy options available. I pair mine with trousers for work, add accessories and pointed slingbacks and I'm done!

Equipment is kind of an authority when it comes to blouses - they have so many different styles, colors, and patterns at this point but my favorite still remains the Essential blouse whose name is pretty self explanatory. Besides the fact that it comes in gorgeous updated colors every season, the fit is so flattering and it's very versatile. I wear it to work, I wear it going out, it really goes with everything.

Ok, but can we talk Aritzia?? This shirt is so amazing - it is kind of like the equivalent of a boyfriend shirt (size down!) but in luscious silk. It comes in so many colors, and when caught during a sale, comes at a really great price point. You can pair it with trousers or a pencil skirt for work, jeans for the weekend, I just love how it drapes and flatters. Bonus points for a covered placket, to me that really elevates the look!

Back to Theory, this beauty comes from Theory Outlet which is one of absolute go-to's for workwear and elevated casual wear at a much better prices point than the original Theory. With a covered placket, straight fit, and various colors, this shirt is so versatile in my wardrobe - and it will never go out of style!

Let's take a moment to step away from the traditional button-up blouse (see what I did there?), this blouse from Vince is a twist on a classic and is so beautiful on. With a slim collar neckline, it drapes well and pairs really well with some great earrings and trousers or jeans.

Another twist on a classic, the Aritzia Monocle shirt is totally on trend for the 'pajama' style, but I'm not convinced that this won't fall under the classic category in the next few years. Also easier on price, the fabric is so luxe and it comes in beautiful pastels and vibrant colors. Since the neckline also provides interest, I would definitely focus more on earrings with this one!
